Тhe Project: Multifunctional crutch-four in one
In this project, the focus is on physical traumas affecting the body starting from the pelvis downwards and mostly focusing on the area of the legs – shank fractures, injuries of the knee joint and the knee-cap, tibias fractures, ankle dislocation, muscle fibers rupture, tendon crick, osteoporosis etc. The main idea of this crutch is developed on the basis of functionality, ergonomics and a combination of resistant materials and manufacturing technologies. The crutch went through a variety of transformations and a prototyping cycle. Finally, we reached the idea to turn this product into a specific and multifunctional one. Through the use of two functional accessories, we managed to add two new products to the two main ones. The whole idea for a “Multifunctional crutch – four in one” contains in itself a module system of simple elements and an easy to assemble structure, seamlessly turning it into 4 different products stage-by-stage. The crutch consists of a set of the following: elbow crutch, armpit crutch, a cane with an adaptor, as well as a walker, to which the following can be added: a bottle and a mobile device holding accessories, a wallet and other small appliances. This is a product solving a real problem of a person’s life and creating comfort and convenience through its application to a physical rehabilitation process and a recovery from trauma.

Basic functions - Underarm crutch and elbow crutch
Usually, two types of crutches are used during the rehabilitation process: during the first stage of the process, the armpit crutch is used, and then, the elbow crutch is used when the patient is beginning to walk again. The idea was to turn the product into a completely different one just by changing a single adaptor, and its function being clear and accurate.
Function - Cane with an adapter
For the purpose of achieving higher multifunctionality, we have adapted an appliance for a cane which is suitable for people who are beginning to walk again after a rehabilitation process, and contributes to their comfort when making movements.
Function - Walker
We added a module of elements for use during a rehabilitation process – a walker.
For the comfort of the user, we created an accessory which can hold a bottle of water and another one for a mobile device, a wallet and other small devices.
Multifunctional crutch - four in one
The main issue
The reasons for accidents and the resulting traumas can be due to quite a few factors – workplace risks, sports, or jerky moves, crashes, overloading and falls as the unfortunate events happening in a person’s everyday life.
After an incurred trauma and the already passed rehabilitation process, the conclusion reached is a feeling of discomfort and not enough functionality offered by the well known standard crutches.
Through an easy and convenient change of the additive parts, we have managed to achieve better comfort and functionality with a view towards the already existing subsidiary medical devices.
The main idea for the crutch has been built on the basis of multifunctionality, ergonomics and a combination of resistant materials and technologies for it development.
The product consists in itself a module of simple elements. Its mountable and demountable structure goes through a cycle of four different products – an elbow rest crutch, an armpit crutch, a cane with an additive part, as well as a walker. To make all these even better, we have added accessories for holding a bottle, mobile devices, wallet and many other small appliances.
The main team consists of: Pavel Vlahov - co-founder, industrial designer, engineer and Ventsislav Angelov – co-founder. Part of the project are also people who are professionals in the fields of advertising, marketing, prototyping and manufacturing.
In 2012 an idea for partnership was raised as a result of some serious issues in the field of the subsidiary medical devices. We have established our common mission and started walking in the direction for product development, thus creating the brand UNIERGO.
The project’s development isn’t stopping here, it is still going on and 3 more designs of multifunctional crutches are about to be created in future.
